Remote NDIS (RNDIS) eliminates the need for hardware vendors to write an NDIS miniport device driver for a network device attached to the USB bus. Remote NDIS accomplishes this by defining a bus-independent message set and a description of how this message set operates over the USB bus. Because this Remote NDIS interface is standardized, one set of host drivers can support any number of networking devices attached to the USB bus. This significantly reduces the development burden on device manufacturers, improves the overall stability of the system because no new drivers are required, and improves the end-user experience because there are no drivers to install to support a new USB bus-connected network device. Currently Microsoft Windows provides support for Remote NDIS over USB.
The following figure shows the replacement of the device manufacturer’s NDIS miniport with the combination of a Remote NDIS miniport driver and a USB transport driver. The device manufacturer can therefore concentrate on device implementation and not have to develop a Windows NDIS device driver.
Microsoft provides an NDIS miniport driver, Rndismp.sys, which implements the Remote NDIS message set and communicates with generic bus transport drivers, which in turn communicate with the appropriate bus driver. This NDIS miniport driver is implemented and maintained by Microsoft and is distributed as part of Windows.
The following Remote NDIS message set mirrors the semantics of the NDIS miniport driver interface:
Initializing, resetting, and halting device operation
Transmitting and receiving networking data packets
Setting and querying device operational parameters
Indicating media link status and monitoring device status
Microsoft also provides a USB bus transport driver that implements a mechanism for carrying the Remote NDIS messages across the USB bus. This driver transports standardized Remote NDIS messages between the Remote NDIS miniport driver and the bus-specific driver, such as USB. The bus-specific drivers are also required to map any bus-specific requirements, such as power management, into standardized Remote NDIS messages. The transport driver for USB 1.1 and 2.0 is implemented and maintained by Microsoft and distributed as part of Windows.
This structure allows a single device driver to be used for any Remote NDIS device for which there is a bus-specific transport layer. In addition, only one bus transport layer is required for all network devices on a specific bus.

If you are trying to share the internet from your Android mobile to your Windows 11/10 PC, but USB tethering is not working, then this post will help you. You may be able to connect your Android mobile to a computer via USB cable but may not able to use the internet. In other words, if you have connected your mobile to your computer via USB cable, and you have enabled the USB tethering option in your mobile – but still the internet does not work on your computer!
USB tethering not working on Windows 11/10
To fix the USB tethering problem on Windows 11/10, follow these suggestions:

1] Install/update USB RNDIS Adapter
The Remote Network Driver Interface Specification or RNDIS driver can be helpful to fix your issue. If the pre-installed driver is not helping you to provide internet, you can install the USB RNDIS driver. For that, do follow these steps.
)pen the Device Manager. You can press Win + X, and select Device Manager from the list. Expand the Network adapters option, right-click on Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device and select Update driver.
Generally, this option appears as ‘Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device’. However, if you are using a Samsung mobile, you might find ‘Samsung’ in the title of this option.
After that, select Browse my computer for driver software and Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer. Then, you have to remove the tick from the checkbox saying Show compatible hardware.

As you are using Windows 10, this is very easy to find out the troubleshooters. You can open Windows 10 Settings and navigate to the Troubleshoot page in the Update & Security section. Here you should find some troubleshooters to fix common Network issues like this one. From the list, you need to run two troubleshooters, and they are Internet Connections and Network Adapter. To run a troubleshooter, select it and click the Run the troubleshooter button.
After that, you need to follow the screen instructions to finish the process. This step can show everything if there is an internal issue.
3] Disable unnecessary network adapters/connections
Let’s assume that your Ethernet connection is displays ping loss. This means that the internet is unstable at this moment. Meanwhile, if you try to use the USB tethering functionality, you might not get the internet connection from your mobile. As your computer gives priority to the Ethernet connection, the internet will be disconnected frequently.
Therefore, you should disable that Ethernet connection. For that, you need to open the Run prompt by pressing Win + R buttons together, type ncpa.cpl and hit the Enter button. Now, right-click on the Ethernet connection, and select Disable.
After that, check if you can use the internet or not.
These are some of the common troubleshooting suggestions. However, you could verify a few other things:
Check if the USB tethering option is selected on your mobile. You cannot expect an internet connection on your computer if you haven’t turned this option on.
Make sure you have a valid internet pack on your mobile. You cannot use USB tethering with a Wi-Fi connection. You must have a cellular data connection.
Turn the Airplane mode on and off. Sometimes it may help you when you are in a lousy network coverage area.

Yes, it’s true. VRE will not have Wi-Fi available until cell phone towers are put in place all along the route so that riders have 100% connectivity. We do not want our passengers to experience a service that might be more of an inconvenience than a convenience.
Sometimes during the ride, however, you undoubtably wish your laptop had an Internet connection. So, what’s a good workaround when you’re in a pinch for a connection? USB tethering may fit the bill.
Tethering allows you to use a phone’s mobile data to access the Internet on a laptop. Depending on your mobile provider, there may be a flat fee for tethering a laptop to your phone. Check with your provider if you’re concerned about added costs.
The process for setting up USB tethering on newer devices is fairly standard:
Connect your phone to your laptop with a USB cable. For many Android phones, you will need a USB-to-Micro USB cable. You will need a lightning cable for an Apple phone. Go to your phone’s settings. Then, access your Wi-Fi/ Network settings. Then … For Android, select Settings, tap More Networks and then Tethering. For iOS, select Settings, and choose Personal Hotspot. For Android, select the checkbox for USB Tethering to enable it. For iOS, toggle the Personal Hotspot option. Check your Network Settings on your laptop. In the available networks, you should see “Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device,” or the name of your phone.
