I saved a Premiere Pro Project File in the current Version Premiere Pro 2020 (V.14) and I had to install Premiere Pro 2019 (V.13). But i could not open my Premiere Pro File anymore. I get the message \”this project was saved in a newer version of adobe premiere pro and cannot be opened in this version\”
So how to open a new pp project on an older version??? In this Tutorial I will show you how you can easily open your newer Version of PP Project on an OLDER Version. To do this you need to change only on number with NOTEPAD. Thats it. You can open an new premiere pro project without xml files or any other tools. This works with almost all Adobe Premiere Pro Versions.

We cannot guarantee that the project will work perfectly in an older Premiere Pro version. In particular, edits made using the new Type Tool will be lost as CC 2017 and older versions do not support it.
PREMIERE PROJECT DOWNGRADER
Upload a Premiere Project (.prproj) file and this tool will instantly convert it to be openable in any older version of Premiere.
This tool is not yet able to convert Premiere 2021 or 2022 projects to earlier versions. I’m working on a fix to this but it’s proving more complicated than I hoped.
Explanation:
A Premiere project (.prproj) file is basically an xml file wrapped up in gzip compression. One of the nodes contains a version number corresponding to the version of Premiere which created it. Premiere checks this when opening a file and refuses to open anything with a lower version number, even when the project is basically compatible: “This project was saved in a newer version of Adobe Premiere Pro and cannot be opened in this version.”
This tool simply changes that version number to ‘1’ and creates a gzip compressed file which Premiere can read. You can perform the same process yourself manually, as described here, however this tool makes it simple.
Because this is a cheat, some filters and effects may be lost when converting.

Tải 7zip theo phiên bản Windows của bạn và cài đặt
Copy project tạo thêm 1 bản sao để đề phòng file bị hỏng và đổi tên file để dễ nhận biết
Click chuột phải vào file bạn vừa tạo bản sao chọn 7zip / Extract here
Click chuột phải vào file bạn vừa Extract ra chọn Open With / Notepad
Trong file Notepad vừa mở, bạn tìm đến dòng thứ 4 có chữ Version=”38″ bạn đổi thành Version=”1″ sau đó bấm Save lưu lại
Click chuột phải vào file bạn vừa sửa và lưu với Notepad chon 7zip sau đó bấm Add to archive
Bảng Add to archive trong dòng Archive format bạn chọn gzip bấm Ok
Bạn đổi đuôi .gz thành đuôi .prproj bấm Ok
Nếu máy tính của bạn chưa hiển thị đuôi file thì bạn cần bật trong thanh Menu chọn tab View tích chọn File name extensions
Vậy là xong bạn đã có thể mở file này trên phiên bản Premiere hiện tại bạn đang dùng và tất cả các file khác thì bạn cũng làm theo cách này để có thể hạ phiên bản project xuống phiên bản thấp hơn.
Lưu ý: bạn chỉ nên chuyển đổi các file project giữa những phiên bản gần nhau. Nếu Premiere Pro trên thiết bị của bạn có phiên bản quá thấp so với file hiện tại thì khi mở lên, một số tính năng và hiệu ứng có thể xảy ra lỗi.

The same can happen, if you and your Team are working in different Version of Adobe Premiere Pro. So, how can you open a new Premiere Pro Project File on an older version???

Change this number to a lower number like: …Version=”1″> and save the file.
Step 6: Right click on the saved file: 7-Zip\Add to archive…
Step 7: Change archive format to “gzip“
Step 8: Change the name ending to *.prproj
Step 9: Open the Project in Premiere Pro and let the Project be converted. – Done
Opening a 15.x project in a previous version of Premiere Pro (using XML)
If you have opened your project in the latest version of Premiere Pro and want to revert back to using the previous version, save the file in XML format and import it in the previous version.
